The Langtang valley trek is a popular trekking in the Langtang region, north of Kathmandu. It is a fantastic trek that offers spectacular views of Langtang Himalayan range. You’ll get to explore diverse Himalayan flora and fauna along with the rich culture and traditions of Tamang. Trekkers argue that the Langtang Valley trek is really worthy for close views of gigantic Himalayas.
The trekking is relatively short that runs through rhododendron and bamboo forests, along side thundering waterfalls and stunning snow-capped mountains. The trail takes you to an altitude of up to 4,000m. If you want to go higher, you’d not want to miss to see the sunrise from the Tserko Ri at 5,000m.
The trekking begins from Dhunche or Syabrubesi, which is around 7-8 hours drive from Kathmandu. Dhunche is also the starting point for Gosainkunda Lake trek. Then it heads into the Langtang National Park. The trek mostly follows the Langtang Khola River. Crossing various Tamang Villages like Rimche and Lama Hotel, the trek reaches the Langtang Valley. The settlement is similar to the Tibetan villages with unique lifestyle. After the Langtang Valley, the route heads towards the Kyanjin Gompa (3870m) via a cheese factory. Kyanjin Gompa is the last point of the trek.
In a short span, the Langtang valley trek offers breathtaking Himalayan sceneries and opportunity to explore pristine countryside. You’ll also get to experience majestic views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Lamjung Himal, Naya-Kang, Lantang-ri, Tserku Ri, Langtang Glacier, and many other peaks. There are diverse flora and fauna in this trekking route. Among them, oaks, pines, rhododendron, and maple trees are common. While clouded leopard, wild boar, red panda, rhesus monkey, snow leopard are among endemic faunas of the region.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, Tribhuwan International Airport, Brothers Team's rep will receive you with private vehicle and transfer to hotel. Our representative will give you briefing about your trip, and take you for a guided tour of the World Heritage Sites including Swayambhutanth Temple and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
After breakfast, we drive on a northern highway that twists and climbs over mountain ridges to the Trishuil valley. The journey will take 7-8 hours through picturesque landscapes, mountain scenery and local villages. On the way we have magnificent views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu and Mt Kerung of Tibet. Overnight relax at a local teahouse lodge in Syabrubesi.
After breakfast, your trek begins with an uphill hike through a forest. Continuing uphill there is a bit of a steep climb for an hour to reach a place interestingly called Bamboo.
At 1,850m it is a good place to stop and catch our breath and have lunch. After lunch, the trail continues upwards through the bamboo forests until we reach Lama Hotel, quite a famous place in this locale.
Today the trail takes us through rhododendron and pine forests, past waterfalls and along very scenic paths. We feel particularly close to nature today as we enter the interesting wide valley of Langtang.
This is home for many wildlife also as we are in Langtang National Park. Will we see a red panda? But first, we stop at Ghoda Tabela for lunch before heading on to Langtang Village and up the Langtang Valley to Mundu where we stop for the night.
Today’s trek is a little shorter but no less interesting! After breakfast, we walk passed watermills, chortens (Buddhist shrines) and prayer wheels on the way to Kyanjin Gompa.
After lunch, we have the afternoon to explore the Gompa and surrounding areas and take in the mountain views. This also acts as an acclimatization day before climbing Tserko Ri the next morning.
After an early good breakfast, we trek for approximately 5 hours to summit Tserko Ri. But the views make it worthwhile! Here we can see Yala Peak (5,520m), Langtang Ri (7,205m), Langtang Lirung (7,227m) and Naya Khang (5,844m). We can enjoy our packed lunch while taking in the majestic mountain views right in front of us, before a shorter descent back to Kyanjin Gompa where we will again spend the night.
Today the trek is long but relatively straight forward, as we gradually descend to Lama Hotel. Passing through forests and interesting villages, the mountains continue to dominate the sky.
After breakfast, there is plenty of time to reach Syabrubesi so walk at your own pace and take the opportunity to take the final photographs from the Langtang Region.
Today, we bid farewell to the Langtang region and drive back on the same route to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, guide will help to transfer you to the hotel and rest of the time simply relax or explore the local area and overnight at hotel.
Brothers Team representative will pick you from the hotel and help to transfer to airport for your scheduled flight back home.
